Tate & Lyle seeks an Associate Principal Scientist in Analytical Material Science to advance our understanding of microstructure and ingredient functionality. You will lead advanced analyses and cross-functional projects, transforming complex data into actionable insights for product development and customer solutions.

The role emphasizes scientific rigor, effective communication, and a customer‑focused problem-solving mindset, balancing hands-on lab work with leadership responsibilities.

Qualifications

• PhD in Material Science, Food Science, Polymer Science, Analytical Chemistry, or related field.
• 3+ years (or 6+ years with a Master’s) in industrial or applied research in food ingredients or related sectors.
• Proven track record in food physics, soft matter rheology, and structural properties of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids.
• Experience with DoE and multivariate data analysis using statistical software.

Responsabilités

• Lead characterization of ingredients and multiphase food systems using advanced material science techniques.
• Utilize rheology, tribology, microscopy, particle characterization and related tools.
• Design and execute experiments to study structure–function relationships and formulation effects.
• Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods and workflows.
• Apply DoE, multivariate statistics, and data science to analyze complex datasets.
• Build predictive models linking material properties to texture and stability.
• Collaborate with Product Development, Process Engineering, Regulatory and Sensory teams.
• Provide scientific guidance to customer-facing teams and translate data into insights.
• Mentor junior scientists and contribute to capability growth.
