Job summary

Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) seeks a Research Scientist with a strong background in applied microbiology to develop an independent program focused on marine discovery using cutting-edge omics and molecular techniques. The role aims to accelerate the identification of new marine organisms, genes and products with biotechnology and health applications.

The successful candidate will build a research group, establish collaborations with academic and industry partners, and lead efforts

Qualifications

PhD in a relevant field such as Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology.
Background in applied molecular microbiology.
History of leading research projects with grants or other funding.

Responsibilities

Develop a research program related to discovery of novel marine microbial species, genes, and gene products with biotech or therapeutic applications using omics and molecular biology.
Build a research group and establish collaborations with leading academic and industry partners.
Identify new funding opportunities and write grants to support research efforts.
Publish results in leading scientific journals and present to scientific and lay audiences.
Assist with institutional fundraising and outreach efforts.
