Job summary

Montebello Unified School District seeks a Nutrition Services Assistant III to oversee food production at an assigned nutrition center, determine quantities, and manage inventory. The role trains and directs other staff and may be reassigned to different sites based on district needs.

Incumbents ensure meals meet health and safety standards, supervise preparation, and handle serving areas, cashiering, and daily record-keeping across programs.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of large-quantity food service preparation, serving and storage, including safe temperatures.
• Knowledge of federal/state health and safety regulations for food prep.
• Knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment and facilities.
• Knowledge of commercial kitchen utensils and equipment and their use.
• Knowledge of training and providing work direction.
• Knowledge of basic nutrition and child nutrition program standards.
• Knowledge of inventory storage methods and record-keeping.
• Knowledge of customer service practices.

Responsibilities

• Cook, bake and serve food for a school nutrition center; adjust recipes and quantities as needed.
• Prepare food using kitchen equipment; measure ingredients and portion servings.
• Set up serving areas and replenish hot food areas and beverages.
• Maintain inventory records and conduct daily/monthly inventories; record temperatures.
• Receive and check deliveries; place and track food orders.
• Perform general cleaning to keep centers sanitary and safe.
• Train and supervise other nutrition staff and act as lead when needed.
• Cover as back-up for supervisor as required.
