Job summary

Oakland Schools is seeking a Head Custodian at Madison High School to oversee daily maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of the facilities. This role leads a custodial team and ensures the building remains clean and compliant with health and safety standards.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and several years of custodial experience, with supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of safety procedures and basic maintenance is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3–5 years custodial experience; 1–2 years in supervision preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning supplies, equipment, and safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
• Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
• Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
• Familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems a plus.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee general cleaning in classrooms, offices, restrooms and hallways.
• Oversee basic maintenance tasks like changing bulbs and unclogging drains.
• Ensure grounds are clean, safe and well-maintained.
• Monitor safety hazards and ensure compliance with health and OSHA regulations.
• Assist with event setup and work with staff on facility issues.
• Respond to emergencies such as leaks and urgent repairs.
