Job summary

Sumter School District is seeking a Head Building Service Worker for Rafting Creek Elementary. The role is non-exempt, overseeing custodial staff and daily maintenance to ensure a safe, clean school environment conducive to learning.

The position reports to the Principal and requires at least 3 years of custodial experience or equivalent. The incumbent will participate in staff selection, training and performance evaluation, with responsibilities extending to safety and equipment upkeep.

Qualifications

• 3 years experience as a school custodian or the equivalent in custodial service in other institutions and firms.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee maintenance and repair work to high safety and cleanliness standards.
• Assist in selection, assignment, scheduling and training of custodial staff.
• Monitor time records and schedules of custodial employees and certify salary payments.
• Maintain inventory and recommend purchases of supplies, tools and equipment.
• Evaluate custodial staff performance regularly.
• Promote safety, health and comfort of students and staff.
• Keep boiler rooms and electrical rooms clear of rubbish and stored materials.
• Demonstrate all duties necessary as a custodian.
• Work with others in a cooperative and respectful manner.
• Perform other duties designated by the principal.
