Job summary

Sumter School District is seeking a Head Building Service Worker (Non-exempt) to lead custodial operations at our school facilities. The position focuses on safety, cleanliness, and upkeep of the school plant and grounds to provide a conducive learning environment.

You will supervise custodial staff, participate in selection and training, oversee schedules, and ensure compliance with safety standards. A minimum of 3 years’ custodian experience is required to safeguard student and staff welfare.

Qualifications

• 3 years experience as a school custodian or the equivalent in custodial service in other institutions and firms.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications may be found appropriate and acceptable by the Board.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate custodial staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the selection, assignment, scheduling, and training of members of the custodial staff at the assigned school.
• Plans and oversees all maintenance and repair work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
• Monitors the time records and schedules of all custodial employees in the school and certifies them for salary payments.
• Maintains an inventory and recommends purchase of suitable supplies, tools, and equipment.
• Evaluates the performance of the custodial staff on a regular basis.
• Strives to promote safety, health, and comfort of students and employees.
