Job summary

Mount Airy City Schools is seeking a Transportation Specialist/Lead Bus Driver in Mt. Airy, NC. This full-time role combines driving with supervisory duties, coordinating driver coverage and ensuring safe, on-time routes for students.

The ideal candidate will have a CDL with P and S endorsements, a clean driving record, and 2–3 years of certified school bus driving experience, plus strong leadership and communication skills. DOT medical certification is required.

Qualifications

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
• Safe driving record (clean MVR), clean background check, and current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
• Minimum of 2–3 years of experience as a certified school bus driver (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Lead morning parking lot procedures and coordinate daily operations.
• Coordinate driver absences and arrange substitute driver coverage.
• Serve as primary backup driver for routes when needed.
• Monitor safety and student management on routes; assist drivers as needed.
• Inspect and report bus maintenance issues and safety concerns.
