Job description

Summary

The Heart of Brooklyn Kool Kidz Program is seeking an enthusiastic team member for our summer 2025 program from June 11th to August 15th.We are looking for someone who has experience with classroom management for elementary age children (ages 5-9). Ideally, this candidate is a self-starter who can work independently and as a team member. We reiterate that we are looking for a strong, hands-on, school age teacher for the summer! The Lead teacher will manage the day-to-day operational activities of the program. Teachers must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating program environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns. The hours for this position are between 32-40 hours a week. Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm. This position can continue part time into the 2025-2026 school. Will discuss during interview if interested.


Duties
  • Implement the weekly themes already selected by planning individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
  • Provide play with the variety of materials and resources purchased to go along with the weekly themes for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to children.
  • Arrange indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor-skill activities, and safety.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order.
  • Plan and supervise class projects, field trips. A total of 9 field trips are already scheduled tied to the weekly themes.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions.
  • Ensure all program policies and state regulations are met.
  • Ensure a healthy program environment - including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Requirements
  • A level 10 or higher on the registry.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with school age children
  • Good oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • Good organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management skills.
  • High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
  • A strong understanding of child development.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.
  • Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, or squat.
