Job summary

Berkeley Rep is seeking a Scene Shop Supervisor to lead maintenance, safety, and workflow across the scene shop from pre-production to postproduction. In person at Berkeley Rep campuses, the role coordinates with Technical Direction to oversee tools, CNC equipment, and safety programs while ensuring production deadlines are met.

The ideal candidate has deep scenic construction experience, CNC machining knowledge, and a strong commitment to equity and safety in the workplace.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in scenic construction and scenery installation.
• Deep knowledge of CNC fabrication and machining.
• Deep understanding of using and repairing scene shop tools such as saws, welders, CNCs, and hand tools.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of materials and hardware used in theatrical scenery.
• Knowledge of automation equipment, motors, and drives.
• Experience with theatrical rigging and fabrication techniques.
• Strong commitment to antiracism, equity, diversity, inclusion, and access (AEDIA).
• Ability to organize and communicate information clearly, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work with diverse groups and juggle multiple priorities in high-stress situations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee shop maintenance and safety, ensuring equipment is maintained and logged.
• Supervise load in/out activities at the theater as assigned.
• Understand construction drawings for each project and manage CNC queues.
• Lead training on tools and safety for staff and over-hires.
• Maintain SDS database and communicate with facilities for space upkeep.
• Contribute to capital projects planning and prioritization with Technical Direction.
