Job summary

AeroVironment seeks a Scaled Inorganic Particle Synthesis Scientist to drive advanced materials development for defense systems. You will lead scaling from benchtop chemistry to multi-kilogram production of inorganic powders, ceramics precursors, and high-temperature nanoparticles.

The Senior Scientist will mentor junior team members, guide cross-functional projects with AFRL and internal engineers, and manage lab-to-pilot scale-up workflows on government programs.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. with 3–5+ years of industry/postdoctoral experience, or MS with 6–8+ years of scaled-synthesis experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead synthesis, purification, and pilot-scale production of advanced inorganic powders and precursors.
• Develop scalable routes to move formulations from gram-scale to multi-kilogram production.
• Serve as SME on advanced materials research and coordinate with AFRL and internal teams.
• Establish QC, stoichiometry, morphology, and particle-size parameters using automated tools.
• Oversee characterization (XRD, SEM/EDS, TGA/DSC, BET) and inert-atmosphere protocols.
• Mentor junior scientists and manage project deliverables, risks, and budgets.

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, or related field
