Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Scaled Inorganic Particle Synthesis Scientist to drive advanced materials development for defense systems. You will lead bridging benchtop discovery and batch/continuous scale-up of inorganic powders and high-temperature precursors, acting as a SME with autonomy.

You will mentor junior scientists, manage lab-to-pilot workflows, and collaborate with AFRL and internal engineering teams to integrate powders into manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a closely related field with 3–5+ years of industrial/postdoctoral experience or MS with 6–8+ years scaled-synthesis work.
• U.S. Citizenship required due to work with government facilities.
• Strong background in inorganic materials synthesis and scale-up processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead synthesis, purification, and pilot-scale production of advanced inorganic powders and precursors.
• Develop scalable chemical routes to move formulations from gram-scale to multi-kilogram production.
• Serve as technical lead translating program requirements into synthesis plans.
• Establish quality control and characterize materials using automated instrumentation.
