Job summary

K2 Space is hiring a Principal Crypto Engineer in Los Angeles to own the cryptographic architecture of Type-1 integrations across spacecraft, payloads, and ground systems. You will lead designs from concept to test and work closely with the COMSEC certification lead on NSA approvals.

You will define interfaces, ensure secure command/telemetry protection, and drive reusable crypto standards across the production line while thriving in a fast-paced startup environment and traveling as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science
• 5+ years of engineering experience designing or integrating cryptographic systems or secure communications
• Hands-on experience integrating NSA Type-1 cryptographic equipment into a hardware or software system
• Working knowledge of key management and key loading implementations
• Ability to work in a fast-paced startup atmosphere with aggressive schedules and competing priorities

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end technical architecture of Type-1 cryptographic integrations across spacecraft, payload, and ground segment
• Lead crypto designs from concept through implementation, integration, and test
• Design encryption, key management, and key loading implementations for command, telemetry, and mission data
• Integrate cryptographic functions into flight software, avionics, FPGA, RF, and ground systems
• Produce design documentation and test evidence to support certification
• Identify and mitigate cryptographic design risks across hardware, software, and RF boundaries
• Establish reusable cryptographic designs and standards for production
• Support anomaly resolution and troubleshooting for crypto systems
