This isn't a repetitive field service role in a standard factory; it is a senior-level position within a high-tier engineering and manufacturing firm that specializes in custom, large-scale industrial machinery. With a massive legacy in the automation space, this company builds sophisticated systems for sectors ranging from automotive to consumer goods.
You will be a vital member of an elite engineering team, working on high-complexity, ground-up projects that are deployed to facilities across the globe. The company culture is rooted in a supportive, family-oriented environment that values individual contribution over corporate bureaucracy. Because the client base is global, the business enjoys incredible stability and consistent growth. This role offers the unique challenge of seeing a project through its entire lifecycle: from initial design kickoff to final debug and on-site commissioning for a diverse array of global partners.
What You Will Be Doing (Daily Responsibilities)
- Robotic System Commissioning: Start up robotic platforms from scratch, including initial setup, frame calibration, mastering, and I/O communication configurations.
- Architecture & Logic Handshaking: Design full robot programming architecture, ensuring seamless handshaking with central PLC programs and stand-alone material handling platforms.
- Full Build & Debug Lifecycle: Collaborate directly with project leads through the entire build and shop debug process to ensure 100% quality, reliability, and cycle-time delivery standards.
- Hardware Assembly & Wire Tracing: Lead the mechanical and electrical assembly of custom automated systems, including troubleshooting complex control wiring and optimizing specialized tooling builds.
- Vision System Integration: Program, calibrate, and integrate advanced Vision Systems hardware and software into robotic cells and automated equipment for part guidance and inspection.
- Applications & Quoting Support: Assist the Applications department with technical insights when developing new cell designs, estimating build hours, and generating custom quotes.
- Documentation & Team Leadership: Manage project documentation and cycle time charts while mentoring shop assembly personnel to ensure high efficiencies and adherence to customer specifications.
What We Are Looking For (Requirements & Qualifications)
- Technical Mastery: 4-6 years of dedicated experience in Robotic and PLC integration for industrial custom manufacturing equipment.
- Multi-Brand Robotics Depth: Hands-on fluency programming and debugging major industrial robot platforms (FANUC, Yaskawa Motoman, ABB).
- Software & CAD Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Robotic Offline Simulation software, PLC logic troubleshooting, and referencing digital assemblies inside CAD/SolidWorks.
- Multi-Domain Troubleshooting: Expert-level capability to diagnose and repair automated systems across robotic, electrical, fluid power, and mechanical domains.
- Vision Integration: Proven background in troubleshooting and programming Vision System hardware and software (e.g., Cognex, Keyence).
- Education & Travel Flexibility: Completed 2-year or 4-year Engineering Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Software) and full willingness to travel 30%-40% globally for project commissioning.
- Location & Authorization: Residence established within a comfortable, daily 45-minute driving radius of the Brown Deer / Greater Milwaukee area.
