Lead Robotics Integration Engineer – Paid Overtime & 30–40% Travel

Up to $104,000 Base Salary + Paid Overtime Greater Milwaukee Area Direct-Hire

  • COMPENSATION: Up to $104,000 baseline annual salary + paid overtime eligibility on top of base + premium corporate travel benefits package.
  • WORK STRUCTURE & TRAVEL: 100% Onsite shop debug mixed with 30% to 40% travel | High-visibility domestic and international commissioning deployments & client startups.
  • LOCATION REQUIREMENTS: Reside within a dependable 45-minute daily driving radius of the Brown Deer, WI area shop when not deployed in the field.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Prestigious, family-owned automation leader with a century-long legacy of engineering excellence; builds large-scale, custom automated systems for Tier-1 automotive, aerospace, and consumer goods manufacturers; supportive, non-bureaucratic engineering culture.
  • TECH STACK: Industrial robotic arms (FANUC, Yaskawa, ABB), PLC logic architecture, 2D/3D vision tracking systems, end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), and SolidWorks/CAD design reference.
  • REQUIREMENTS / COMPLIANCE: Completed 2-year or 4-year engineering degree required; US Citizen or Green Card holder; passport readiness and valid driver's license.

If you are a seasoned robotics professional or automation specialist looking to escape the monotony of rigid factory maintenance or isolated field service, this direct-hire engineering track offers the ultimate professional canvas. The employer is a highly prestigious, family-owned automation leader with a century-long legacy of engineering excellence. They design and build large-scale, custom automated solutions for world-class brands across the automotive, aerospace, and consumer goods sectors. Because their global client footprint is incredibly diverse, the firm enjoys remarkable market insulation and continuous backlog growth.

This role completely rejects corporate bureaucracy, maintaining a highly supportive, close-knit engineering culture where technical contributors have a direct voice in system design. You will take total engineering ownership of high-complexity, ground-up robotic systems. This role is highly satisfying because it spans the entire project lifecycle—you will see a custom cell born on paper, program its initial logic from scratch, debug its movements on the assembly floor, and ultimately deploy it live at a customer's facility.

What You Will Be Doing (Daily Responsibilities)
  • Robotic Platform Initialization: Start up and initialize complex robotic platforms from scratch, managing frame calibration, mastering, payload configuration, and multi-protocol I/O communication setups.
  • Architecture & Logic Programming: Design complete robot programming architecture, ensuring seamless handshaking logic between articulated arms, central PLCs, and material handling platforms.
  • Full Lifecycle Build & Debug: Collaborate directly with internal project leads through the entire build, run-off, and shop debug lifecycle to guarantee systems meet strict customer cycle-time specs.
  • Hardware Assembly Support: Provide hands-on technical guidance during mechanical and electrical assembly, tracking down complex wiring faults, and optimizing advanced end-of-arm tooling (EOAT).
  • Vision System Integration: Integrate, calibrate, and program advanced 2D/3D vision systems into robotic cells for high-speed part inspection, sorting, and precision guidance.
  • Applications & Quoting Partnership: Partner with internal application engineering groups to provide critical technical insights when designing future automation concepts and quoting custom projects.
  • Mentorship & Field Deployment: Mentor shop assembly technicians and junior personnel on the floor, then lead 30% to 40% global field travel for customer startups and final system sign-offs.
What We Are Looking For (Requirements & Qualifications)
  • 4 to 6 Years Field Integration Experience: Proven, hands-on background configuring, integrating, and commissioning complex industrial robotic arms and PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Engineering Education: Completed 2-year Associate Degree or 4-year Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Automation, Mechatronics, or Software Technology).
  • Software & CAD Fluency: Direct experience utilizing robotic offline simulation software, editing ladder logic, and referencing digital mechanical assemblies inside SolidWorks/CAD.
  • Multi-Domain Diagnostic Mastery: Expert capability diagnosing multi-variant automated system faults across robotic, electrical, fluid power, and mechanical safety domains.
  • Vision Systems Depth: Practical background setting up, troubleshooting, and programming dedicated vision hardware, lighting arrays, and industrial cameras (e.g., Cognex, Keyence).
  • Travel Flexibility: Full availability and willingness to travel 30% to 40% globally for customer startups and site handoffs.
  • Location & Authorization: Residence established within a comfortable, daily 45-minute driving radius of the Brown Deer, WI shop area, valid passport/driver's license, and US Citizen or Green Card holder status.
Preferred Technical Assets (Bonus Skills)
  • Multi-Brand Robot Certifications: Formal factory training or certifications from FANUC, Yaskawa Motoman, or ABB.
  • Advanced PLC Programming: Experience writing structured text or complex function blocks in Allen-Bradley (Studio 5000) or Siemens (TIA Portal).
  • Safety & Network Protocols: Hands-on setup of Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, and Safety PLC interlocks across integrated cell boundaries.
