Overview

At Houston Methodist, the Lead Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) functions in a lead role, overseeing an assigned shift and/or area. This includes performing lead duties such as projects or specialized responsibilities as part of their regular job. In addition, they perform duties at a Sr RCP level, which involve advanced procedures. The position acts as the liaison between management, staff, and physicians, serving as the primary contact for resolving questions and issues for RCPs and support staff. The goal is to ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care, adherence to standards of practice, and the achievement of optimal safety, quality outcomes, and customer service.

Responsibilities

The duties include organizing work schedules, assigning tasks, reviewing time cards, conducting quality assurance audits, developing and implementing quality improvement activities, training and mentoring staff, providing performance feedback, participating in skills development, analyzing/reporting data, and preparing departmental reports.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an approved education program for the required credentials.

Work Experience: Four years as an RCP, with two years in ICU, Neonatal, or ER, and lead/supervisor experience preferred. Alternatively, three years at Houston Methodist with one year as an RCP and demonstrated leadership abilities.

  • RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC)
  • RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in Texas
  • Additional NBRC certifications or equivalent within 6 months, as specified
  • BLS and ACLS certifications
