Job summary

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Cherokee Mental Health Institute, is seeking a Resident Treatment Technician for a part-time 28-hour week schedule. RTTs will lead Resident Treatment staff, learn the RTW role, and assist with cross-training and orientation as directed by a RN/Nurse Supervisor.

RTTs monitor patient wards, participate in safety checks, de-escalation, and emergency codes, and help schedule hospital-wide trainings. A background check is required.

Qualifications

• At least 18 months of full-time nursing/therapeutic assistant experience in a health care/mental health setting.
• Alternative education/experience substitutions allowed with a combination of post-high school study in nursing or behavioral sciences.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct RTW staff as directed by a RN/Nurse Supervisor.
• Escort patients off ward for meals, appointments, and activities; maintain a calm environment.
• Respond to fire alarms, conduct ward searches and safety checks.
• Support staff development and schedule trainings with Nursing/Staff Development.
• Model professional behavior and communication with patients and staff.
