Job summary

RTI International is seeking a Research Chemist to join the Center for Therapeutics, Toxicology, and Devices (CTTD). You will design and conduct organic synthesis experiments, apply purification and characterization techniques, and help establish SAR to guide compound development.

The successful candidate will lead defined research activities, collaborate with computational chemists, and mentor junior staff while producing technical reports and presentations for clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• PhD in chemistry or related discipline with relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience with organic reactions and purification techniques.
• Experience applying analytical methods to organic chemistry research.
• Ability to interpret results and use SAR trends to guide research.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and in teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct organic synthesis experiments using established methods.
• Perform reactions, purifications, and compound characterization to support projects.
• Develop analytical methods to evaluate identity and purity of compounds.
• Contribute to dose formulation development and characterization as needed.
• Interpret data to identify SAR trends and guide synthesis decisions.
• Collaborate with computational chemists and other scientists to integrate findings.
• Lead assigned project activities and manage competing priorities to milestones.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations communicating methods and findings.
• Present research findings to clients and collaborators at professional meetings.
• Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance and feedback.
• Maintain accurate research records and follow safety and quality requirements.
