Job summary

Office Depot is seeking a Lead Regional Maintenance Engineer to drive engineering excellence and reliability across our distribution centers and cross-docks within your assigned region.

You will partner with Supply Chain Operations to develop regional and national maintenance strategies, oversee preventive and reactive programs, manage vendor relationships, and mentor maintenance managers and teams to raise skill levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
• 7+ years of maintenance experience with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
• Experience with conveyors and warehouse automation is highly desirable.
• Strong Excel and Access skills are required.

Location: This role is eligible for remote, hybrid, and on-site setup depending on candidate location and proximity to Office Depot facilities.

Overview

As the Lead Regional Maintenance Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in advancing engineering excellence and operational reliability across Office Depot Distribution Centers and Cross-docks within your assigned region.

Acting as the primary link between Supply Chain Operations and site maintenance teams, you will ensure that all facilities operate efficiently, minimizing downtime and optimizing cost, quality, and response times. You will collaborate closely with senior management to develop and implement a nationwide maintenance strategy, while also providing technical guidance and mentorship to maintenance managers and teams.

Your responsibilities include overseeing preventative and reactive maintenance programs, managing vendor relationships, and driving continuous improvement in maintenance processes and standards. Additionally, you will lead key projects, analyze maintenance performance data, and help shape team structure and skill development.

Primary Responsibilities:

Maintenance Strategy & Execution:

Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement regional and national maintenance strategies, including team structure, performance metrics, and operating procedures.

Preventative & Reactive Maintenance:

Define, schedule, and oversee planned preventative maintenance programs and support timely resolution of reactive maintenance issues to minimize downtime.

Team Leadership & Development:

Provide insight, training, and mentorship to maintenance managers and teams, helping to build technical expertise and optimize team performance.

Vendor & Parts Management:

Develop and manage vendor relationships and national parts supply agreements to reduce costs, enhance service, and improve equipment reliability.

Process Improvement & SOP Development:

Develop, implement, and enforce maintenance SOPs; monitor breakdowns and maintenance trends to drive corrective actions and proactive risk mitigation.

Project & Budget Management:

Lead engineering and maintenance projects, collaborate on annual operating plans, and analyze maintenance expenses to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.

Education and Experience:

• Level of Formal Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
• Area of Study: Logistics, mechanical or industrial engineering
• Minimum Years of Experience: 7
• Type of Experience: Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic, PLC, pneumatic/Hydraulics as well as 7+ years' experience of conveyer systems and/or warehouse automation. Lean manufacturing, Line-level operations experience, running high-volume and highly mechanized/automated distribution facilities preferred
• Technical Competencies & Information Systems: MMicrosoft Suite (strong focus on excel and access), mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic systems competencies
• Skills & Abilities: Hands on knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, Lean manufacturing
• Personal Attributes & Other/Preferred: Strategic influencing, people-management, excellent oral / written communication skills, leadership, interpersonal, cognitive, occupational and trouble shooting skills, self-starter, dedicated, quick learner, efficient leader and coach
