Job summary

CoolSys in Virginia Beach is seeking a Lead Apprentice/Journeyman to lead, train, and mentor the project crew on commercial HVAC and refrigeration installations. You will prioritize tasks, delegate responsibilities, and communicate with tradespeople to keep projects moving on time.

You will monitor safety, enforce PPE usage, track schedules, and manage costs while coordinating with peers, customers, general contractors, and subcontractors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or completion of trade program or technical school; college degree is a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in commercial building construction or related industry.
• Knowledge of construction principles and practices, including efficient use of labor hours.
• Ability to organize tasks and delegate assignments.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain punctuality.
• Commitment to safe work practices and policy compliance.
• Ability to follow all company policies and applicable laws.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and stay dependable.
• Proficient in using computer tools including email and Projectmates.

Responsibilities

• Leads and mentors the project crew on assigned projects.
• Reports on job status and performance.
• Controls job costs.
• Develops and maintains productive relationships with peers, customers, GCs, and subcontractors.
• Ensures PPE use and safe behavior on site.
• Ensures compliance with installation policies and procedures.
• May oversee 3rd party resources.
• Directs and oversees work of Apprentices and Journeymen on projects.
