Job summary

City of Orlando is seeking a part-time staff member to assist in delivering after-school and summer athletic programs within the Families Parks and Recreation division. Responsibilities include officiating, supervising activities, and ensuring safety for middle school youth.

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic self-starter capable of growth in sports programs, responsive to customers, and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required; experience in organized educational or recreation settings is preferred.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License is required.
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred; FRPA certification desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Officiate or supervise a variety of athletic activities while ensuring safety of participants.
  • Assist Manager with daily game-day operations for a safe and enjoyable experience for youth.
  • Work may be outdoors and subject to heat, insects, and weather conditions.
  • May require evenings, weekends, and holidays; assist with driving a van to pickup kids as needed.
  • Oversee Recreation staff to ensure programming needs are met.

Job Summary

Salary: $15- $16 Hourly Assist the Center Manager in the delivery of services for an Families Parks and Recreation after-school and/or summer program, to ensure that the educational, behavioral and financial objectives of the program and the needs of the staff, youth, families and public are met. An employee in this classification performs specialized work in the area of athletic programming under the direction of the FPR and or Recreation Center Manager.

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic self-starter that will continually improve and stimulate growth in sports programs while being responsive to the needs of customers.

Responsibilities
  • Responsibilities include officiating or supervising a variety of athletic activities, while ensuring the safety of an FPR/Recreation after-school and/or summer program and facility.
  • Assist Manager with daily game-day operations to provide an enjoyable and safe athletic experience for middle school aged youth, while they learn individual and team skills, sportsmanship and overall skill development.
  • Work is sometimes performed outdoors, and employees are exposed to extreme heat, insects and weather conditions.
  • Employee may be required to work evenings, weekends and holiday.
  • Will assist with driving van to pick up kids from school for the after-school program as needed.
  • Oversee Recreation staff to ensure programming needs are met.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, plus some knowledge or experience in an organized educational, recreation or leisure services field working in various activities such as educational programs, youth sports, aquatics, cultural and therapeutic arts, health and fitness, community centers, etc. required; or an equivalent combination of related training and experience.
  • Applicant must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
  • Certification by the Florida Recreation and Park Association desired, but not required.
Employment Details
  • THIS IS A PART_TIME_POSITION WITH NO GUARANTEE OF A CERTAIN NUMBER OF HOURS AND NO BENEFITS.
  • THIS POSITION INVOLVES WORKING ON A TEMP/SEASONAL CONTRACT WHICH CAN BE RENEWED ANNUALLY BASED ON PERFORMANCE AND BUSINESS NEEED.
  • If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows: Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree; Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree; Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
