Job summary

Kingman Regional Medical Center seeks a Lead Radiologic Technologist to supervise radiology staff and coordinate daily operations in the Imaging department. Under the direction of the radiologist, you will perform diagnostic exams, ensure ALARA safety, and maintain quality standards for patient care.

The role requires ARRT and AZDHS licensure, ARRT registration, AZDHS licensure, and AHA BLS. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential to support departmental goals and patient safety.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of Radiologic Technologist program.
  • Current registration and licensure by the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS).
  • Current registration and licensure by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • American Heart Association BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of Rad Tech staff: coordinates work, assigns daily schedules, ensures record keeping, observes staff, suggests improvements, performs QA/QC, manages inventory, serves as Clinical Coordinator for Rad Tech students.
  • Evaluation and Implementation of Appropriate Care: administers ionizing radiation under radiologist guidance, selects exposure factors, adapts procedures for quality outcomes, ensures appropriate patient care plans.
  • Quality of Care: follows CDC hygiene, complies with regulations, maintains quality assurance programs and reports metrics.
  • Patient Satisfaction: uses AIDET, supports department patient satisfaction goals, attends meetings, ensures licensure and training is up to date, participates in process improvements.

Position Title: Lead Radiologic Technologist Position Code: TechLdRad-6140

Reports to: Imaging Supervisor Exempt Status: NO

Position Purpose

All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision of providing the region’s best clinical care and patient service through an environment that fosters respect for others and pride in performance.

Under the direction of the radiologist, performs appropriate diagnostic exams and studies to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervision of Rad Tech staff
    • a. Coordinates the work assigned to each area and monitors the work of the staff: develops and assigns daily schedule of assigned personnel and ensures accurate record keeping.
    • b. Observes and assists technical and ancillary staff in the performance of job duties, including providing suggestions for improved work efficiency and quality.
    • c. Performs preparation of control and quality control and assessment tasks (QA/QC).
    • d. Ensures the department delivers quality services, in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards, to support operational excellence.
    • e. Performs active inventory management. Receives and communicates with vendors for specialty stock items.
    • f. Serves as the Clinical Coordinator for Rad Tech students.
  • Evaluation and Implementation of Appropriate Care
    • a. Under the direction of the Radiologist and the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS), administers ionizing radiation for the purpose of diagnosis which includes positioning the x-ray beam with respect to the patient, anatomically positioning the patient, selecting exposure factors, and initiating exposure.
    • b. Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
    • c. After reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition, selects the most appropriate patient care plan.
    • d. Selects appropriate shielding devices and appropriate immobilization devices.
    • e. Adheres to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) safety principle.
    • f. Evaluates lab values prior to administering contrast media.
    • g. Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.
    • h. Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested. Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate.
    • i. Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts, from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination.
    • j. Monitors patient and equipment during procedures, accurately documents exam times (start and stop), patient reactions or problems, and reports concerns or issues immediately to supervisor.
    • k. Documents patient and exam occurrences in the appropriate Imaging software database, to include exam start and complete times.
  • Quality of Care
    • a. The technologist provides evidence-based care so as to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.
    • b. The technologist practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
    • c. The technologist complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions.
    • d. Comply with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental statutes, policies, and procedures.
    • e. Reviews and revises the division's policies and procedures manuals and protocols according to regulatory guidelines.
    • f. Follows the standards established by the medical staff, radiologists and management team. Assures the development and administration of a Quality Assurance Program for the Radiology Division which guarantees compliance to DNV standards and to state and federal regulatory and licensing agencies. This may include monitoring quality metrics and the preparation of quarterly reports which document the quality and compliance of all Radiology Division needs.
  • Patient Satisfaction:
    • a. Regularly applies AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) as well as other evidence-based behaviors when taking care of patients. Shows empathy care to patients and family members present.
    • b. Actively helps the department meet the identified Patient Satisfaction goal.
    • c. Demonstrates regular attendance and participation at scheduled department and team meetings. Absences must be communicated as soon as practically possible.
    • d. Ensures all licensure, competencies, training, and education are completed in a timely manner.
    • e. Participates in and encourage continuous process improvement.
Qualifications

Preferences
  • Education preferred from an educational institution approved by ARRT, Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT), or the American College of Radiology (ACR)
  • Previous experience as supervisor or lead
Special Position Requirements
Exposure Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

Other potential hazards: exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK REQUIREMENTS:

  4. 4. Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of a patient and equipment weighing up to and over 300 lbs.
  5. 5. Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
  6. 6. Able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the duration of the scheduled shift.
  7. 7. Able to demonstrate concentration and visual and auditory acuity to watch monitors and follow instructions during exams.
