Job summary

Abbott, located in Plymouth, MN, seeks a Staff R&D Engineer for the Electrophysiology (EP) division to drive flex circuit design for medical devices. You’ll lead development of flexible and rigid-flex circuits, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to meet design goals.

Responsibilities include prototyping, DFx reviews, and documenting ECAD data, Gerber files, and BOMs.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Material Science, or related field.
6+ years of hands on experience in flexible circuit design and development.
Strong understanding of flex circuit materials, stack-ups, impedance control and signal integrity.
Experience leading and managing complex technical workstreams within a large program.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of single- and multi-layer flexible circuits, including rigid-flex designs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define design requirements and constraints.
Create and review detailed flex circuit layouts, stack-ups, and material selections using CAD tools.
Perform DFM and DFA reviews with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Develop and maintain documentation including ECAD data, Gerber files, BOMs, and risk assessments.
Support prototype builds, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis of flex circuit issues.
