Job summary

Follett Higher Education is seeking a Team Lead for Python/Django Engineering to serve as the deepest technical authority on an engineering team building backend services backed by PostgreSQL. You will own architecture, code, and mentorship, while guiding the AI-assisted development practices.

The role emphasizes enterprise integrations, CI/CD, and collaboration with product and operations to deliver reliable, scalable systems across education technology platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering with Python, including deep Django expertise.
• Proven track record as the go-to technical authority on a team.
• Strong PostgreSQL experience: schema design, migrations, performance tuning.
• Experience designing enterprise integrations and RESTful APIs in production.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Git, and automated testing.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and containers (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Proficiency in React for reviewing frontend code; backend-first approach.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools in production.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture decisions and the technical roadmap for Python/Django services.
• Review and guide frontend work to stay aligned with backend patterns.
• Lead PostgreSQL data architecture end-to-end.
• Collaborate with DevOps for database health and design decisions.
• Design and lead enterprise integrations and messaging patterns.
• Lead code reviews and drive resolution of complex problems.
• Drive CI/CD improvements, test automation, and deployment safety.
• Monitor production health and lead incident response.
