Job summary

Hydro, Inc. in Chicago's West Loop is seeking a Lead Rotating Equipment Rebuild Specialist (Pumps) to drive complex pump rebuild projects, leading disassembly, inspection, reassembly, and QA to meet tight schedules and quality standards.

The role requires hands-on repairs on BB1–BB5 pumps, familiarity with ANSI/Hydraulic Institute and API codes, and mentoring mechanics. You will supervise safety, documentation, and on-site work, with opportunities to shape proposals and ensure profitable growth.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience in the pump industry.
• Proven ability to independently execute pump service and maintenance with accurate measurements and documentation.
• Hands-on repair experience with BB4/BB5, BB1, BB2, BB3 pumps or similar multi-stage pumps.
• Field service experience is a plus.
• Background in steel or power industries.
• Familiarity with ANSI/Hydraulic Institute and/or API codes and their practical application.
• Strong interpersonal skills for daily customer and team interactions.
• Analytical troubleshooting capability for diagnosing systemic issues.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook for service reports and communications.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily workflow with the shop superintendent and cascade plans to the floor team.
• Perform hands-on disassembly, inspection, reporting, cleaning, and reassembly of pumps.
• Train, mentor, and oversee mechanics in teardown and assembly procedures.
• Deliver technical support to customers and internal teams.
• Read and interpret blueprints to guide repair and reassembly.
• Safeguard adherence to QA/QC procedures and documentation.
• Report floor status during production/sales meetings.
• Notify the shop superintendent when jobs are complete and ready to return to customers.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
• Serve as acting shop superintendent during absences.
