Location: Good Samaritan hospital; Downers Grove, IL.
Full Time; 3rd Shift (Hours/Shifts: 1730-0600 and 2130-0600)
Responsibilities
- Provide security services with a customer-service approach, focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion, in accordance with policies, procedures, and training.
- Inspire confidence in patients, visitors, and team members through a professional, approachable demeanor. Ensure compliance with safety and security rules. Maintain department uniform and equipment.
- Lead shift operations for Public Safety Officers, including task prioritization, documentation, incident report review, and shift briefings.
- Respond to and investigate workplace violence, service calls, and emergencies, including de-escalation and use of force when necessary.
- Ensure a secure environment by monitoring compliance, scheduling staff, managing timecards, and making arrest/disposition decisions.
- Conduct rounds, attend meetings, and perform emergency planning and response.
- Investigate incidents, document reports, and escalate issues appropriately.
- Build partnerships across departments, deliver security awareness education, and liaise with law enforcement agencies.
- Coordinate emergency response planning, conduct performance coaching, and participate in training and evaluations.
- Maintain current training standards and certifications, including use of department-issued equipment.
- Assist with exterior traffic and crowd control, and utilize interview tactics to gather incident information.
- Perform community-oriented patrols.
Licensure and Certifications
- Healthcare Security Certification (CHSO) within 2 years of appointment.
- Armed Guard License (if applicable), NIMS Certification, FOID or CCW license, and other state-specific requirements.
- Stop the Bleed Certification within 1 year.
- Valid driver’s license, TASER certification within 90 days, and other relevant certifications.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Typically 5 years of experience in security, public safety, or customer service, responding to emergencies.
- Skills in emotional intelligence, teamwork, safety practices, de-escalation, communication, and physical fitness.
Physical and Working Conditions
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, drive, lift up to 35 lbs., and operate firearms safely.
- Correctable vision to 20/20, exposure to hazards, and ability to handle stressful situations.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of behavioral threat assessment, use of force reviews, environmental design awareness, and facilitation skills.
