Job summary

Mountainside Treatment Center in Connecticut seeks a Lead Psychiatric APRN to provide leadership across its inpatient continuum of care, including evaluations, medication management, and clinical oversight. You will mentor fellow APRNs and collaborate with medical leadership to advance evidence-based addiction treatment.

The role emphasizes leading clinical teams, expanding MAT initiatives, and ensuring high-quality, compassionate care with a focus on patient safety and outcomes.

Qualifications

• APRN with PMHNP specialization and a Master's or Doctoral degree.
• Active Connecticut APRN license with prescriptive authority and DEA registration.
• Minimum of two years of psychiatric NP experience in a clinical setting.
• Experience treating substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
• Certified and authorized to prescribe Buprenorphine.
• Current CPR certification.
• Leadership, mentorship and supervision experience.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, mental status examinations, safety assessments, and ongoing psychiatric care for clients across the continuum of care.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, counselors, and other multidisciplinary team members to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans.
• Partner with Detox Nursing and the Medical Director to manage detoxification protocols, conduct medical rounds, and ensure safe, effective psychiatric care.
• Review prescreens and assess prospective admissions for psychiatric and medical appropriateness.
• Support and expand Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and other evidence-based psychiatric and addiction treatment initiatives.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, onboarding, and clinical supervision to Psychiatric APRNs while fostering clinical excellence and professional development.
• Participate in on-call coverage to support inpatient psychiatric and medical needs outside of regular business hours.
• Serve as a psychiatric and addiction medicine resource for clinical staff by providing education, consultation, and guidance on best practices.
• Collaborate across departments to promote continuity of care and ensure smooth client transitions throughout treatment.
• Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic testing, respond to crisis situations, and implement interventions that promote client safety and mental wellness.
• Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation standards related to psychiatric care, prescribing practices, and client confidentiality.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and advancement of psychiatric and addiction medicine services across Mountainside.

About the Position:

As the Lead Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, you'll play a pivotal leadership role in delivering high-quality psychiatric and addiction medicine services across Mountainside's inpatient continuum of care. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you'll provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and clinical leadership while helping shape the future of evidence-based behavioral health treatment.

In addition to providing direct patient care, you'll mentor and support fellow Psychiatric APRNs, collaborate with medical and clinical leadership to enhance psychiatric services, and help ensure seamless, compassionate care for individuals throughout their recovery journey. This is an excellent opportunity for a clinically skilled and collaborative psychiatric provider who is passionate about advancing addiction treatment while making a lasting impact on both clients and colleagues.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (four days on-site, one day remote)

Your Role:

Required:

• Master's or Doctoral degree as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.
• Graduation from a U.S.-accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program.
• Active Connecticut APRN license with prescriptive authority and current DEA registration.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience practicing as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in a clinical setting.
• Experience treating individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
• Certified and authorized to prescribe Buprenorphine.
• Current CPR certification.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to provide clinical guidance, mentorship, and supervision.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred:

• Previous leadership or lead clinician experience within an inpatient behavioral health or addiction treatment setting.
• Experience working within medically managed detoxification and residential treatment programs.
• Familiarity with Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and other evidence-based practices for addiction medicine.
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary behavioral healthcare environment.

Compensation

The base rate of pay for this position is $160,000 - $175,000 per year. Actual pay is determined based on a number of job-related factors including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, performance, and working conditions.
