Job summary

Vast Space Llc., based in Long Beach, CA, is seeking a Lead Manufacturing Engineer, Propulsion, to head the propulsion and pressurization hardware manufacturing effort for an artificial-gravity space station program. This full-time role reports to the Manager, Structures & Fluids Manufacturing, and requires leading a team, coordinating build sequencing, and staying hands-on with hardware.

The candidate will own manufacturing development, processes, supplier engagement, and safety/quality

Qualifications

• Bachelors in mechanical, manufacturing, or aerospace engineering
• 5+ years of manufacturing engineering in aerospace, propulsion, or high-reliability fluid systems
• 3+ years hands-on hardware experience supporting fabrication, assembly, integration, and/or testing of fluid system hardware
• Experience developing manufacturing processes, travelers, work instructions, and production documentation for safety-critical fluid hardware
• Experience with CAD tools and reviewing designs for manufacturing readiness
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading a workstream or small team
• Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends for critical propulsion testing and milestones

Responsibilities

• Lead propulsion manufacturing engineering team day to day; set priorities and mentor engineers
• Participate in hiring and onboarding new engineers
• Own manufacturing development, production readiness, and build execution for propulsion hardware
• Own propulsion manufacturing schedule and build sequencing across development, qualification, and flight builds
• Report hardware status, risks, and mitigation plans to program leadership
• Collaborate with design teams to drive design for manufacturing and readiness
• Develop and optimize manufacturing processes and production equipment
• Work with suppliers on manufacturing readiness and documentation
• Partner with quality engineering to define inspection methods and controls
• Set safety and quality culture for high-pressure and hazardous fluid hardware
