Job summary

The Ruhlin Company seeks a Lead Project Engineer for its Civil Division, based at Ruhlin's Sharon Center office. You will own cost control, revenue tracking, and the coordination between field operations and the office to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

As a technical resource, you will support safety plan implementation, submittal reviews, and subcontractor reconciliation, while mentoring junior staff and preparing owner billings to help the project meet its financial goals.

Job description

The Ruhlin Company seeks to hire a Lead Project Engineer for its Civil Division. This position will be based out of Ruhlin's Sharon Center office.

Summary

Increased responsibility for project financial performance and operational compliance. Build on foundational duties with a focus on cost control, revenue tracking, and coordination between field operations and the office. Serve as a technical resource by supporting safety plan implementation, submittal reviews, and subcontractor reconciliation to help keep the project on schedule and within budget.

Responsibilities

Cost/Revenue

• Review phase codes in project software following budget setup by the estimating team.
• Develop and maintain tracking logs for self-perform work, including quantities, materials, subcontractors.

• Review production and cost data with the Superintendent to ensure accuracy.
• Track differing site conditions and owner-directed changes to ensure all extra work is documented and processed for timely compensation.

• Support the Project Manager with subcontractor pricing collection, compilation, and evaluation.
• Prepare draft owner billings for Project Manager review.
• Monitor and maintain awareness of monthly cash flow.

General

• Perform all responsibilities of Project Engineer.
• Assist with progress schedule updates in accordance with contract requirements using appropriate software.

• Prepare, review, and submit RFI’s to the owner.
• Review and process submittals using project-required software.
• Obtain and maintain required project permits.
• Coordinate and track use of yard materials to support cost efficiency.
• Track and reconcile quantities performed against subcontract scope and special provisions.
• Train and mentor junior staff (Project Engineer), helping to develop their technical and professional skills.

Safety

• Develop and maintain the site-specific Emergency Response Plan.
• Review and process subcontractor safety documentation for accuracy and compliance.
• Process job specific and owner safety permits.
• Maintain and audit inspection logs, JHAs, and permits.
• Coordinate and review traffic control plans for job-specific requirements.
• Promote and reinforce the company’s safety culture.

Essential Skills And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of related experience.

• Skilled at managing multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.

• Strong knowledge of construction methods and materials, costing, scheduling, and estimating.
• Proficient in Bluebeam, Microsoft 365, and Microsoft Teams, Viewpoint Vista, and HCSS Heavy Bid, with the ability to quickly learn new software as needed.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
