Essential Function

The Lead Production Mechanic directly leads all Production Mechanics and daily start-up of all equipment for production lines, including set-up, repairs, and maintenance of light manufacturing equipment.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Responsible for upholding company policies and procedures including but not limited to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), production lines, sanitation, cleanliness, equipment verification, and process validation.
  • Promotes healthy communication between workers and management.
  • Performs changeovers, setups, and adjustments of production machines for the day’s production.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment as needed by completing minor repairs to non-functioning equipment.
  • Works closely with the Production Team Lead and assists production as needed.
  • Works with Safety to ensure organizational standards.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Operates equipment in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensures products meet quality standards using visual inspections.
  • Order parts for equipment as needed.
  • Assures production lines are ready for use daily; performs all machine shutdown operations.
  • Follows proper LOTO machine-specific procedures.
  • Works with Production Managers/Plant Managers on scheduling line changes.
  • Assists where needed in Production and other departments.
  • Assist in performing employee evaluations and training new production mechanics.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to locate problems, replace defective parts, and make machine adjustments and repairs to ensure a continuous production operation.
  • Develops, implements, and complies with all continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential/Skills Needed

  • Communication, time management, team-oriented, self-motivated, organized, and uses good judgment
  • Ability to use basic tools for the set-up and operation of manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to use basic shop mathematics, and the ability to identify electrical components.
  • Lock Out/Tag Out Knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to be trained on forklift, pallet jack, scissor lift, and boom lift
  • Having the ability to use basic shop mathematics, handbook formulas, and able to interpret simple blueprints or drawings is preferred but not required.
  • English comprehension including speaking, reading, and writing is required for our business's necessityto ensurea safe and effective work environment.

Education And Experience

  • Requires high school level education (or equivalent).
  • 5-10 years of mechanic experience.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory or team-leading experience is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a production environment is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a food manufacturer is a plus, as is familiarity with food safety and food security.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Will be required to stand for an entire shift
  • Requires walking on a frequent basis
  • May require the employee to infrequently lift and/or carry objects up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Requires frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting close to the body
  • Requires bending, twisting, stooping, and squatting
  • May be required to work at heights while on Boom or Scissor Lift.
  • Must be able to work in various indoor temperatures including elevated heat and humidity
  • Exposure to elevated noise levels which occur below OSHA thresholds
  • Infrequent exposure to machine sanitation solutions and detergents
  • Requires frequent visual quality control observations which may include turning and bending of the neck and head area.
  • Exposure to various odors throughout a work shift.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment [PPE]
  • Required to follow Good Manufacturing Practices [GMPs]
  • May be required to perform confined space entry
  • Exposure to food allergens such as, but not limited to, milk eggs, tree nuts, wheat, and soybeans will occur.
