  • Generate P&IDs (preferably on AutoCAD) including controls strategy and CIP/SIP functions.
  • Perform studies to expand, improve, or automate facilities with limited supervision.
  • Prepare specifications and data sheets for process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Contribute to development of design tools, including process simulation and smart P&IDs.
  • Own process-related aspects of projects and provide technical support to the design team.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and collaborate with IPS design team.
  • Handle special projects as assigned.

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a talented Lead Process Engineer to join our dedicated team at our office in Burlington, Massachusetts.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Produce conceptual design deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams and Material and Energy Balances.
  • Estimate utility requirements for new manufacturing processes, design utilities generation and distribution systems.
  • Generate Process P&IDs (preferably on AutoCAD) that include controls strategy and CIP/SIP functions, if appropriate. Also, generate P&IDs for critical utility systems, such as WFI, USP Purified water, and Clean Steam.
  • Perform engineering studies for expanding, improving or automating existing facilities with limited supervision.
  • Produce specifications and performance data sheets for process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Make use of and participate in development of company design and production tools, including process simulation and smart P&IDs.
  • Assume ownership of the process-related aspects of a portion of a large project or an entire small project, and provide technical support to the design team.
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with clients and members of the IPS design team.
  • Special projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • 10+ years of engineering experience and a minimum of 5 years in process design, preferably in the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industries.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of cGMP’s as they affect process design and equipment specification.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.
Work Environment
  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.
  • Must be able to adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocol.
Travel
  • This position will have 5-20% travel, or as required by the assigned project.
  • You may be assigned to a client site for an extended period.
  • Overnight travel or staying in the city of the Client’s location is possible, depending on the assignment.

  • You will visit Client sites and will be required to adhere to stated safety rules.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Must have the ability to travel and commute on a daily or routine basis.
Safety
  • This position is a safety-sensitive position.
  • The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other "non-administrative" areas.

The salary offered for this role is between $113,000 and $150,000, but the actual salary offered is dependent on experience, skill set, and education.
