Job Description

As a Lead Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer on Oracle's Strategic Customer Engineering team, you will play a critical role in driving complex technical initiatives across Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to support our most strategic customers. You will work across multiple service teams and cross-functional organizations to align technical requirements, resolve complex infrastructure challenges, and lead the end-to-end execution of high-impact engineering solutions that improve customer experience, reliability, and scalability. You will serve as a technical subject matter expert, leveraging deep knowledge of cloud technologies, distributed systems, and architectural trade-offs to influence technical decisions and drive solutions across organizational boundaries. The ideal candidate combines strong hands‑on engineering expertise with exceptional communication skills and a demonstrated history of leading large-scale, complex technical initiatives from design through implementation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of highly scalable, fault‑tolerant distributed systems supporting strategic customer environments.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert, influencing engineering strategy, architectural decisions, and technical standards across OCI service teams.
  • Drive end‑to‑end execution of complex, cross‑organizational engineering initiatives, ensuring technical requirements, dependencies, and deliverables are aligned.
  • Identify and resolve system scalability, performance, and reliability bottlenecks, optimizing infrastructure for high‑throughput workloads and elastic scaling.
  • Evaluate architectural trade‑offs involving availability, consistency, durability, security, and performance to meet service level objectives (SLOs).
  • Partner with Compute, Networking, Storage, Identity, and other OCI service teams to address cross‑service dependencies and technical challenges.
  • Design and implement infrastructure automation, tooling, and change management solutions that improve scalability, operational efficiency, and system resilience.
  • Establish observability strategies, including telemetry, KPIs, dashboards, and alerting mechanisms to proactively monitor system health and performance.
  • Lead complex technical investigations, incident response, and root cause analysis, driving solutions that prevent recurring issues and minimize customer disruption.
  • Drive engineering best practices for system correctness, data integrity, security, compliance, and operational readiness across distributed environments.
  • Advise engineering leadership on technical risks and architectural decisions while mentoring engineers and promoting continuous improvement across teams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure engineering, or related technical disciplines.
  • Deep technical expertise designing and operating highly scalable, fault‑tolerant distributed systems in large‑scale production environments.
  • Strong programming experience in Java, C++, C#, or similar languages, with hands‑on scripting and automation capabilities.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation, containerization, and orchestration technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Advanced Linux expertise, including system internals, administration, performance optimization, troubleshooting, and automation across Oracle Linux, RHEL, Ubuntu, or similar distributions.
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure architecture, including compute, networking, storage, identity, security, and multi‑tenant environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technical initiatives and influencing architectural decisions across multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience with system scalability, high availability, fault tolerance, observability, and performance optimization in distributed cloud environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, including diagnosing complex infrastructure issues, conducting root cause analysis, and improving operational reliability.
  • Ability to influence technical decisions and collaborate effectively with senior engineering leaders and cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical information clearly to technical and executive audiences.
  • Strong technical documentation skills, including architecture designs, technical specifications, operational procedures, and troubleshooting documentation.
