Base pay range
$13.00/hr - $18.00/hr
Summary
Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with additional hours for training/staff meetings as assigned by director.
Scope of position: The Lead Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, managing daily classroom activities, and performing administrative duties. They monitor children's progress, maintain records, and create a safe, engaging environment aligned with the school's philosophy and goals.
Duties
Specific Duties:
- Be a positive leader and support the mission of Westminster Preschool.
- Build strong relationships with children and families.
- Maintain supervision and adhere to child/staff ratios.
- Attend training and staff meetings.
- Demonstrate faith and love for children, upholding Biblical values.
Classroom environment:
- Keep the classroom clean and organized.
- Create diverse learning centers with at least three materials each.
- Display children's artwork and family pictures.
- Establish a calming corner and facilitate its use.
- Follow a daily schedule with smooth transitions.
- Engage actively with children during activities.
- Prepare substitute plans and share responsibilities.
- Complete daily cleaning tasks.
Curriculum:
- Develop lesson plans linking to Indiana Early Learning Foundations.
- Follow prescribed educational and social-emotional curricula.
- Incorporate story dictations and display children's work.
- Participate in mealtimes, encouraging healthy eating and conversation.
- Adapt activities for children with special needs.
Assessment:
- Complete assessments on schedule.
- Use assessment data to tailor activities and support milestones.
- Maintain individual portfolios for each child.
Safety:
- Comply with Indiana childcare safety standards.
- Follow Safe Sleep guidelines.
- Practice proper hygiene and sanitation.
Communication:
- Engage with children at eye level and resolve conflicts positively.
- Meet with parents regularly.
- Use ProCare for ongoing communication with families.
- Coordinate with staff and administrators.
Qualifications:
- Minimum CDA or equivalent, or willingness to start within 6 months.
- Enrolled in or holding an associate degree or higher in relevant fields.
- Experience in early childhood education or related fields.
- Ability to use parent communication software and communicate professionally.
Requirements:
- CPR/First Aid certification, background checks, TB test, and physical.
- Training in Safe Sleep, Child Abuse, and Safety modules.
- Annual in-service training and mandatory meetings.
- Capacity to care for children independently per staff ratios.
- Familiarity with licensing and quality standards.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to lift children weighing at least 40 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, sit, and rise without assistance.
