Job summary

The Valley Shore YMCA is seeking a Head Preschool Teacher for the Goodwin School site in Old Saybrook, CT. This part-time role focuses on creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that supports each child's development while fostering strong partnerships with families.

You will lead activities, mentor staff, plan developmentally appropriate programs, and communicate with parents. This role emphasizes teamwork, creativity, and living the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty,

Qualifications

• Minimum age 20 and CT OEC Head Teacher compliance.
• 540 hours experience with school-age children; 12 college credits in child development/education or a bachelor’s degree with 270 hours of relevant experience.
• First Aid and CPR for childcare workers; Administration of Medication Training (injectables and oral).
• CT CCDF Orientation must be completed after certifications.
• Strong people skills with diverse individuals and groups; on-site 80% of program hours; reliable transportation; ADA understanding.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise daily activities for school-age children in before- and after-school programs.
• Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to staff; foster a positive team environment.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate activities promoting development.
• Encourage positive behavior, conflict resolution, and teamwork.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians.
• Maintain safe, inclusive environment and conduct safety checks.
• Assist with staff scheduling, trainings, and evaluations.
