Location: Juneau, AK (On-Site | Comprehensive Relocation Assistance Provided)
Compensation: Competitive Base Hourly Rate + Transparent Install Commissions, Performance Bonuses & SPIFFs
Employment Type: Full-Time, Year-Round (Guaranteed 40+ Hours/Week)
About the Opportunity
Are you an elite, career-dedicated technician who takes true pride in mechanical craftsmanship, clean piping layouts, and precision troubleshooting?
Our client is Southeast Alaska’s premier, fastest-growing mechanical and residential service provider. While other regional shops experience dramatic slowdowns during shoulder seasons, our client’s consistent year-round residential demand keeps service and install boards full 52 weeks a year. They operate with high mechanical standards, a modern fleet of service vehicles, top-tier press tooling, and a zero-compromise approach to jobsite safety and local plumbing/mechanical codes.
We are seeking a Lead Plumbing & Heating Technician to serve as the organization's top technical field anchor. You do not need prior office or administrative management experience—the company owner will personally mentor you on project staging, apprentice coaching, and field logistics. What is required is deep, uncompromising hands-on trade mastery: someone who understands how hydronic heating loops and domestic plumbing work together, diagnoses complex boiler issues with ease, and sets the benchmark for quality on every install.
Why Make the Move?
- Top-Tier Total Earnings: Generous base hourly wage paired with transparent install incentives, performance bonuses, and product SPIFFs.
- Full Relocation Assistance: Comprehensive relocation assistance provided for qualified technicians moving from within Alaska or from the Lower 48.
- Guaranteed 40+ Hours Year-Round: Steady residential retrofit, replacement, and remodel demand completely eliminates seasonal layoffs and cut hours.
- Complete Tool & Vehicle Setup: Brand-new service vehicle, company-paid uniforms, annual boot allowance, and all specialized testing tools/rigs provided.
- Specialized Alaskan Benefits Package: Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), 100% employer-paid Emergency Medivac Air Ambulance Flight Insurance, IRA with company match, paid trips to Lower 48 industry conferences, and your birthday off as a paid holiday.
- Direct Leadership Mentorship: Learn operational strategy and crew leadership directly from the founder while keeping your hands actively on the tools.
What You Will Do
- Lead Complex Heating Replacements: Install and commission residential hydronic boilers, oil-fired burners, high-efficiency gas/propane boilers, heat pump hybrid systems, and domestic water heating equipment.
- Execute Clean Piping & Mechanical Layouts: Design and run hydronic loops, copper sweat and press piping, circulator pump manifolds, zone valves, and backflow preventers adhering strictly to manufacturer pressure and flow specifications.
- Troubleshoot & Diagnose: Act as the company's primary field escalation resource for complex \"no-heat\" calls, uneven hydronic distribution, burner combustion inefficiencies, and domestic water leaks.
- Direct Wet-Area Plumbing Projects: Lead plumbing rough-ins and trim-outs for bathroom renovations, tub-to-shower conversions, kitchen upgrades, and whole-home residential repipes.
- Mentor Developing Apprentices: Work shoulder-to-shoulder with junior technicians, teaching proper pipe fitting, combustion safety, low-voltage control wiring, and code-compliant installations.
- Homeowner Consultation: Explain mechanical system health, repair options, and system efficiency upgrades clearly and professionally to homeowners on site.
What We Are Looking For
- 8+ Years of Hands-On Residential Trade Experience: Deep, practical background spanning both residential plumbing and wet-side hydronic/heating systems.
- True Mechanical & Piping Acumen: Comprehensive understanding of pipe scheduling, copper grades and pressure ratings (Type M vs. Type L/K applications), relief valve sizing, venting standards, and expansion tank calculations.
- Combustion & Controls Mastery: Proven competence setting up and servicing oil and gas burners, draft regulators, low-voltage thermostats, zone controllers, and aquastats.
- Professional Communication: Articulate, dependable, and customer-focused. You present yourself as a trade authority who respects homeowners and upholds high craftsmanship standards.
- Logistics & Clearances: Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving history; ability to pass standard pre-employment background and substance screenings.
- Relocation Readiness: Willingness to relocate to Juneau, AK, with comfort working in coastal Alaskan climate conditions.
- Compensation: Competitive hourly base rate on W-2 + performance bonuses, commission, and SPIFFs
- Relocation Package: Financial moving assistance and logistical relocation support
- Medical & Health: Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) + 100% company-paid Emergency Medivac Air Ambulance Insurance
- Retirement: IRA with company matching
- Paid Time Off: Paid holidays, accrued paid vacation, paid sick time, and paid birthday holiday
- Training & Gear: Paid travel to Lower 48 industry trade conferences, full specialized tool sets provided, annual boot allowance, and company-provided vehicle
- Culture: Family fitness program, quarterly team cookouts, outdoor events, and community charity initiatives
