Job summary

Piper Companies seeks a PLC Automation Engineer to join its growing engineering team in Charlotte, NC. The role focuses on controls system design, automation development, panel design, and project execution for data center, pharmaceutical, and life sciences projects.

Responsibilities include designing control systems, creating electrical drawings, configuring Allen-Bradley PLCs, and supporting startup activities.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technical discipline with related experience.
2–5 years of professional experience in industrial automation or controls engineering.
Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and/or EPLAN for electrical drawings.
Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell hardware, panel design, wiring, and system integration.
Willingness to travel ~30% to customer sites and support commissioning.

Responsibilities

Design and develop industrial control systems including schematics, panel layouts, and automation architectures.
Create and maintain engineering documents using AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
Configure and support Allen-Bradley PLC-based control systems from design through startup and commissioning.
Lead design efforts on large automation programs and mentor junior engineers.
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve project delivery.
