Job summary

State Farm in Bloomington, IL, is seeking a Lead Platform Engineer to design, build, and maintain an enterprise-grade developer platform focused on end-to-end CI/CD across the full SDLC.

You'll apply expertise in GitLab/GitHub Actions, IaC, and secure deployment practices, partnering with engineering, security, and product teams to deliver measurable business impact.

This hybrid role requires living within 180 miles of a hub and participating in a mix of remote and in-office work.

Responsibilities

As a Lead Platform Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain an enterprise-gradedeveloper platformfocused onend-to-end CI/CD and developer delivery workflowsacross the full SDLC. You’ll bring deep hands-on expertise inGitLab/GitHub/GitHub Actions—includingbranch protection, PR workflows, required checks, runners, reusable/composite workflows, release automation, and governance to standardize how teams build, test, and release. You’ll createreusable pipeline templates and workflow standards, integrateInfrastructure-as-Code (IaC)and declarativeYAMLconfiguration, and enable secure, reliable deployments acrossdev/test/staging/prodplus ephemer preview environments.

A core responsibility is to embed security, quality, and complianceinto the platform by design throughsecrets management, least-privilege access, audit logging, andsupply-chain protectionssuch asSBOMs, artifact signing, and provenance. You will implement and automatesecurity scanning and policy-as-code, partnering closely with security teams, while connecting delivery events to operational and planning tools (e.g.,Slack notifications/approvals/incident alertsandJira traceability). You’ll also document platform standards and runbooks, troubleshoot and debug pipeline/deployment failures, and translate platform engineering work into measurable business impact through close collaboration withapplication engineers, SREs, QA, product, and release management.

Senior-Level Differentiators

• Experience defining CI/CD platform strategy across an engineering organization (Well Architected Frameworks and Enterprise Software Change Management Standards)
• Ability to measure and improve developer productivity, deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, and MTTR
• Experience building self-service developer platforms or paved-road/golden path delivery workflows and experiences
• Strong judgment around standardization versus team autonomy
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and drive adoption of engineering best practices across teams

• Potential starting salary range: $120,000 - $150,000
• Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience
• High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience
• Potential yearly incentive pay up to 15% of base salary
