Job summary

Clayton County, Georgia seeks a Planning Administrator in the Community Development Department to lead, coordinate, and manage comprehensive land use planning and zoning work programs. The role focuses on updating the comprehensive plan, developing asset-based strategies, and serving as lead reviewer for land-use plans while guiding junior planners.

The position requires a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning and 6 years’ related experience with AICP preferred; valid GA driver's license

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning or closely related field; six years of related experience.
  • Supervisory experience and knowledge of planning disciplines such as land use, urban design, and housing.
  • AICP certification preferred; valid Georgia driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project management to coordinate land use, permitting, licensing, and zoning divisions.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff; conduct performance appraisals and recruitment.
  • Coordinate daily work activities; assign tasks, monitor progress, and lead staff meetings.
  • Develop RFPs and manage complex planning studies, including asset-based community development strategies.
  • Interact with regional planning agencies and maintain up-to-date land-use GIS data and zoning matrices.
  • Support zoning meetings and promote EnerGov system updates.
  • Stay informed on codes, regulations, and professional trends.
