Summary
This position is located at the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FxHCC) in the Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders outpatient clinic within the Central Virginia VA Health Care System in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It supports the VA mission to care for our Veterans with compassion and excellence.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial qualification standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree: Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
- Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or its territories.
- Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency must be accredited by ACGME, AOA, or deemed equivalent by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
- Additional Eligibility: Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs or those with verified practice in the U.S. may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on a limited basis.
- Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Specialized Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine preferred. Fellowship training or significant experience in SCI medicine is also preferred.
- Knowledge: Outpatient services in physical medicine and rehabilitation, with a focus on spinal cord injury, including various therapies and social services.
- Physical Requirements: Light lifting and carrying under 15 pounds, use of fingers, both hands and eyes required.
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement until September 30, 2025, with initial application review starting June 6, 2025, and subsequent reviews monthly.
- Collaborate with program directors and oversee outpatient SCI&D programs, providing supervision to Rehabilitation Therapists.
- Ensure efficient operation of clinical outpatient SCI&D programs, including evaluations, consults, and examinations, in compliance with VHA standards.
- Provide direct patient care and collaborate with the PMR service for patient evaluation and treatment.
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
- Additional duties include ensuring timely and courteous service to veterans, participating in multidisciplinary teams, and other responsibilities as needed.
