Exciting Opportunity at SSU!

Lead Physician, 60% Time Base

Are you a physician (MD or DO) seeking a better work/life balance who is passionate about providing top-quality primary care medical services? Do you want sufficient time to build relationships with patients, focus on preventative care, and offer health education? Would you enjoy working with a diverse student body on a beautiful, dynamic college campus, with opportunities to engage in outreach and collaborate with campus partners?

If the idea of no on-call duties or long hours appeals to you, and you are interested in a 24-hour workweek, allowing you more time for family, friends, hobbies, and personal interests, this opportunity might be perfect. Additionally, you will enjoy vacation and holiday time off throughout the year.

Sonoma State University (SSU) is seeking a skilled physician to join our team at the Student Health Center (SHC) as we continue to develop and reinforce our culture of excellence. If you are looking for a fulfilling career with outstanding benefits, we encourage you to apply.

About Us

Sonoma State University values diversity, respect, excellence, and integrity. The SHC strives to provide high quality, affirming, and culturally-sensitive/humble care and health education to a diverse student population. The team includes administrators, medical assistants, registered nurses, a health educator, a laboratory scientist, a pharmacist, and medical providers. We are primarily funded by student fees, do not accept insurance, and are able to offer our students low or no-cost services. We largely treat acute illness and minor injury, perform age- and lifestyle-appropriate screening, and have the capacity to provide both individualized and population-based health education and preventive care. We also provide reproductive health care including medication abortion. Join us and be a part of something extraordinary!

The Role

As the lead physician, you'll be an integral part of the SHC team reporting to the Associate Director of the Student Health Center. You will be part of a small, talented, and collaborative medical team that prioritizes achievement, reliability, compassion, diversity, teamwork, and well-being. You will spend most of your time providing direct care to students and will participate in department planning, quality improvement, committee work, and outreach activities. You'll play a key role in ensuring the excellence and effectiveness of health services and will make a meaningful impact on the current and future health of SSU students.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need to be licensed as an MD or a DO in California and be board certified in primary care. Strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills, proficiency with electronic health records, and experience working in higher education are required. Preference will be given to candidates who speak Spanish fluently and have an interest in working with students from marginalized communities.
