Job description

UPMC Children's Pint Size Pharmacy is looking for a Lead Pharmacy Technician to join their dedicated team!

This position will work out of the Children's Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy, Pint Size Prescriptions, which is part of the UPMC Retail Pharmacy Network. We fill retail prescription orders for patients leaving the hospital and those visiting for clinic appointments.

Qualified candidates are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus!

This role will work primarily daylight shifts, Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends as needed by the department.

Responsibilities:
  1. General: Create and lead departmental quality improvement activities to continually improve pharmaceutical care based on operational and patient care indicators. Provide leadership for designated technical aspects related to medication preparation. Oversee daily activities, organize duties, develop workflow guidelines, and other tools to maximize productivity. Assist in training other Pharmacy Technicians.
  2. Investigational: Assist in procurement, accountability, storage, preparation, and distribution of investigational and study drugs.

  4. General: Provide respectful feedback to meet departmental needs. Exhibit effective interaction with hospital personnel supporting service excellence and patient experience. Develop workflow guidelines, policies, and procedures to maximize productivity and ensure regulatory compliance. Oversee and instruct staff in daily activities and ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the designated area.
  5. General: Support new initiatives, promote shared experiences among staff, and maintain high technical knowledge. Finalize sales following proper cash handling policies. Prepare reports to support pharmacy activities. Maintain a professional image and demonstrate knowledge of laws related to controlled substances.
  6. Distribution: Participate in medication distribution, including cassettes, emergency carts, and controlled substances, complying with policies and regulations.
  7. Documentation: Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports as required. Ensure compliance with all regulations and standards.
  8. Inventory: Procure and maintain adequate inventory levels daily, ensuring secure storage of medications according to regulations.
