UPMC Community Pharmacy is seeking a full-time Lead Pharmacist to join their dedicated team at Magee Outpatient Pharmacy.

The Lead Pharmacist will ensure the timely provision of cost-effective drug therapy, contribute to optimal patient outcomes, provide educational support for healthcare practitioners, and support drug-related research.

This role involves working eight-hour shifts during the department's operating hours from 8:30 am to 5:15 pm.

Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate daily activities of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists, demonstrating a service-oriented approach towards patients, staff, and visitors.
  2. Coach and mentor staff through feedback, discipline, and performance evaluations.
  3. Schedule personnel, authorize overtime, and develop workflow guidelines, policies, and procedures to maximize productivity and standardize practices.
  4. Collaborate with team members and other leaders to evaluate workflow and implement service improvements.
  5. Participate in quality improvement and cost-reduction initiatives based on department and regulatory indicators.
  6. Maintain collaborative relationships with healthcare providers and handle patient care issues as they arise.
  7. Conduct meetings to facilitate service changes and improvements.
  8. Complete staff competencies and perform duties of staff pharmacist, including evaluating medication orders for appropriateness and applying pharmacokinetic principles.
  9. Use computer skills for processing prescriptions and maintaining patient records.
  10. Supervise daily activities and assist in training pharmacy technicians and interns.
  11. Provide drug information to healthcare professionals and patients.
  12. Support research activities, including procurement, storage, and distribution of study drugs.
  13. Audit and maintain records for controlled substances, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  14. Maintain inventory and assist in procurement as needed.
  15. Participate in continuing education, staff development, and departmental quality improvement programs.
  16. Implement Pharmacy and Therapeutics policies, including drug usage evaluation and formulary management.
  17. Maintain punctuality and serve as an active team member contributing to patient care and departmental goals.

Minimum qualifications include a B.S. or Pharm.D. degree from an accredited school, with at least 5 years of post-licensure pharmacist experience. Post-licensure experience is preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Pharmacist license required
