UPMC Magee Outpatient Pharmacy in Pittsburgh seeks a Lead Pharmacist to guide a dedicated outpatient team at the Oakland Campus. This role supports the Magee Women’s Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy within the UPMC Retail Pharmacy Network, serving patients leaving the hospital, clinic attendees, and staff.

The Lead Pharmacist will mentor staff, develop workflow guidelines, and oversee daily operations while ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-licensure pharmacist experience.
  • Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Pharmacist

Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor staff through continuous feedback.
  • Develop workflow guidelines and tools to maximize productivity and standardize practices in the practice area.
  • Facilitate quality improvement or cost-reduction initiatives; maintain collaborative relationships with pharmacy, nursing, medical staff and other departments.
  • Oversee daily activities and assist in training pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and trainees.
  • Provide timely, comprehensive drug information to providers, nurses, patients and other departments; ensure adequate medication inventory and procurement; participate in recalls and shortage mitigation.
  • Implement and uphold committee decisions; meet budgets with explained variances; ensure regulatory compliance and customer service; resolve pharmacy customer relations issues.
  • Assist with accurate billing of claims and third-party audits.

Job description

UPMC Magee Outpatient Pharmacy is looking for a Lead Pharmacist to join their dedicated team!

This position supports the Magee Women's Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy team at the Oakland Campus. Magee OP is part of the UPMC Retail Pharmacy Network. We fill outpatient and retail prescription orders for patients leaving the hospital, those visiting for clinic appointments, and employees.

The pharmacy is open to the public Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and staff support weekend discharges Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 2:00.

Responsibilities
  • Coach and mentor staff through continuous feedback.
  • Develop workflow guidelines and other necessary tools (assignment sheets, scheduling, etc) to maximize productivity and standardize practices in the practice area.
  • Facilitate the development and completion of quality improvement and/or cost-reduction initiatives. Maintain collaborative relationships with pharmacy, nursing, medical staff and other departments. Consult with pharmacy leadership to discuss recommendations and issues as appropriate.
  • Oversee the daily activities and assist in training and education of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and all associated trainees.
  • Provide timely, comprehensive and accurate drug information to providers, nurses, patients and personnel of other departments as appropriate. Ensure adequate inventory of medications and supplies necessary for patient care. Assist in procurement as needed by following established procedures. Participate in recalls and shortage mitigation plans including implementation. Maintain professional competency through participation in continuing education and staff development programs. Provide formal and informal educational activities to various audiences.
  • Implement and uphold Executive Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee decisions with appropriate escalation per guidance if needed. Meet salary, drug, and purchased services budgets with variances explained and justified. Ensure regulatory compliance and quality in area of responsibility. Lead by example for customer service and resolve customer relations issues for the pharmacy.
  • Ensure accurate billing of claims and services and troubleshoot billing and patient charge issues. Assist with third-party audits as needed.
Qualifications
