R.W Mercer Co. is a family-owned construction and Service Company headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, with seven locations – six in Michigan and one in Indiana. The company operates in three distinct areas of construction: petroleum construction and service, general contracting, and electrical contracting. In each area, R.W. Mercer provides a turn-key approach that includes planning, design, construction, and installation as well as service, monitoring, and maintenance.

We are looking for a Lead Service Technician to work out of our Ft. Wayne, Indiana office. He/she must have extensive experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining retail and commercial petroleum equipment, including fuel tank monitoring equipment, fuel pumping and dispensing equipment, point of sale systems, fleet fueling systems, and more. A Lead Service Technician will also assist in training and mentoring new Technicians, assist existing Technicians in the field with challenging repairs and installations, and work with the Service Manager to address customer concerns/request, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.

  • Run service calls as necessary.
  • Perform compliance inspections and repairs when necessary.
  • Assist with training customers when installing new equipment.
  • Manage the maintenance of company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate vehicle inventory levels.
  • Properly complete work orders, time sheets, and required paperwork.
  • Adhere to company dress code.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Manage and maintain certifications.
  • Additional tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalency.
  • Excellent Mechanical and Technical Skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round.
  • Ability to participate in 24-hour on-call rotation to cover evenings and weekends.
  • Able to work flexible schedule/overtime when necessary.

Working is performed primarily outside with some travel; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to possible hazardous traffic conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery and uneven surfaces and rough terrain; may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends.

Physical

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a construction environment; walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and twist; push, pull, lift, and/or carry moderate to heavy amounts of weights; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Digging and working in trenches. Working in confined spaces, from heights, and hot/cold weather conditions.
