Job Description: Lead Personal Trainer

General Function:
Under the supervision of the designated supervisor, and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas, the Lead Personal Trainer will be responsible for increasing personal training clientele for the YMCA by actively promoting Personal Training and Small Group Training programs to members on a recurring basis and generating enrollment. When not training, the Lead Personal Trainer is also responsible for maintaining equipment and surrounding areas, engaging and coaching members. The role emphasizes providing high-quality service to members and guests, working with staff to welcome, connect, support, and engage all members and staff.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 21 years of age.
- At least 3 years of experience in the fitness field.
- A college degree in a fitness-related field is preferred.
- Required certifications: ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA or equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal skills to relate well with staff and the public.
- Ability to interact positively with people from diverse backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
- Must obtain YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles and Foundations of Strength and Conditioning certifications within the first 6 months.
- CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 certifications required within 60 days of hire.
- Completion of required trainings including NEO, Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, Sexual Harassment.
- Satisfactory criminal background and Child Protective Services checks.
Essential Functions:
- Support the YMCA's mission, vision, and goals.
- Promote a culture of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Lead programs that strengthen youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
- Acquire and retain personal and small group training clients.
- Generate and convert training leads.
- Supervise wellness area and engage members through coaching.
- Provide member training, orientations, and evaluations.
- Maintain equipment and wellness area cleanliness, document checks, and input maintenance requests.
- Perform programmatic and supervisory duties as assigned.
- Attend meetings and trainings; wear appropriate attire.
- Act as a leader in emergency situations, reporting incidents per protocol.
- Follow wellness standards and perform other duties to ensure excellent member experience.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Meet client acquisition and retention goals.
- Implement new programs and follow up on leads.
- Perform fitness orientations and enforce wellness center regulations.
- Physically capable of walking, standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods.
- Ability to hear distress signals and communicate effectively, projecting voice as needed.
