General Function:

Under the supervision of the designated supervisor, and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas, the Lead Personal Trainer will be responsible for increasing personal training clientele by actively promoting Personal Training and Small Group Training programs, generating enrollment, and maintaining equipment and the surrounding areas. The role emphasizes providing high-quality service to members and engaging with staff and members to foster a welcoming environment.

Qualifications:
  1. Minimum of 21 years of age.
  2. At least 3 years of experience in the fitness field.
  3. A college degree in a fitness-related field is preferred; a National Fitness Certification (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA) is required.
  4. Ability to relate well with staff and the public.
  5. Positive interaction skills with people from all backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
  6. Ability to work with diverse populations.
  7. Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  8. Obtain YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles and Foundations of Strength and Conditioning certifications within 6 months.
  9. CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 certification required within 60 days of hire.
  10. Complete required trainings including NEO, Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, and Sexual Harassment.
  11. Satisfactory criminal background and Child Protective Services checks.
Essential Functions:
  1. Support the mission, vision, and goals of the YMCA.
  2. Promote a values-based culture grounded in caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  3. Lead efforts to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility programs.
  4. Acquire and retain personal and small group training clients.
  5. Generate and convert training leads.
  6. Supervise the wellness area.
  7. Engage members through wellness coaching.
  8. Provide member training, orientations, and evaluations.
  9. Maintain equipment and safety standards with regular checks and cleaning.
  10. Input maintenance requests and perform programmatic and supervisory duties as assigned.
  11. Attend staff meetings and trainings, and wear appropriate attire.
  12. Act as a leader in emergency situations and follow all safety protocols.
  13. Carry out other duties to ensure an excellent member experience.
Lead Personal Trainer Responsibilities:
  1. Achieve and maintain client acquisition targets.
  2. Implement new programs, follow up on leads, and perform orientations.
  3. Meet physical requirements including walking, standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods.
  4. Communicate effectively, projecting voice as needed, and respond to distress signals.
Skills and Ability Requirements:
  1. Respond effectively to inquiries and complaints.
  2. Sell training packages effectively.
  3. Prepare, implement, and prescribe exercise programs.
