Job summary

Blythe Construction is seeking a Traffic Control Lead Person to assist the Project Foreman with installing and managing Traffic Control Systems and Plans for safe transportation of the public and protection of crew members.

The role is hourly, requires highway construction experience, and emphasizes safety, communication, and teamwork on outdoor projects in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Three to five years of highway construction experience preferred.
  • DOT experience is a plus and may be required for some projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret Traffic Control Plans and determine resources and planning.
  • Install and manage traffic control systems and plans for safety.
  • Coordinate with crew on device installation and maintenance.
  • Inspect Traffic Control Devices and signage for proper setup.
  • Provide direction to crew, sometimes without supervision.
  • Oversee safety and well-being of assigned crew members.
  • Report Time and Materials as applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

General Description

The Traffic Control Lead Person will be responsible for assisting the Project Foreman/Superintendent with the installation and management of Traffic Control Systems and/or Plans, used for the safe transportation of the traveling public and protection of impacted construction crew members. This position is hourly.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Reviews and interprets Traffic Control Plans and determines resources and planning for installation and management.
  • Under supervision, is responsible for the installation and management of traffic control systems/plans; associated with the safety of the traveling public and construction employees.
  • Coordinates with assigned crew members, in Traffic Control Device and Sign Installation and corresponding Maintenance.
  • Routinely inspects Traffic Control Devices, including Signage, to confirm proper set-up and maintenance.
  • Must be able to receive and carry out instructions, but also work without direct supervision to provide accurate information/direction to crew members.
  • Oversees the Safety and Well-being of assigned crew members.
  • Reporting of Time and Materials, where applicable.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Education and Experience

The following qualifications are required for this role.

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience in highway construction.
  • Department of Transportation experience a plus.
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
Physical Demands
  • Operate a motor vehicle/pick-up truck.
  • Routinely work a shift of 8-10 hours/per day, including occasional nights and/or weekends.
  • Occasionally, required to stoop, bend and walk
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull various construction signs, stands, cones, barrels and barricades, up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Potential limited exposure to dust, dirt grease and noise; ability to wear personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hardhat.
  • Periodically walk and/or stand, for short periods of time, on various ground conditions, including sand, gravel, pavement and dirt.
  • Must be able to communicate and understand both orally and written/typed.
Work Environment
  • Work is predominately performed outdoors and within the confines of a motor vehicle.
  • Work environment may periodically expose individual to various levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction site; either engineering controls and/or personal protective equipment may be required, to ensure exposure limit does not exceed OSHA specifications.
  • Employee regularly works near traffic and heavy equipment.
