JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Lead Patient Access Registrar

DEPARTMENT: Patient Access Department

SUPERVISED BY: Site Operations Manager (SOM)

SUMMARY:

The Patient Access Lead role encompasses all duties and responsibilities of the patient access registrar. In addition, the patient access lead provides support to the department by working with the SOM to streamline processes, maximize efficiency, increase patient satisfaction, and serve as a community resource.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. High school diploma required; formal training in a medical office setting preferred.
  2. At least three years of patient access and upfront collections experience required.
  3. Understanding of Medicare/Medicaid and insurance plans.
  4. Professional appearance and demeanor.
  5. Excellent customer service skills.
  6. Professional attitude in challenging situations involving patients or staff.
  7. Proficiency in grammatical English and legible handwriting for paperwork.
  8. Strong leadership qualities.
  9. Ability to delegate authority and responsibility.
  10. Effective prioritization and task execution under pressure.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Perform all duties of a Patient Access Registrar.
  2. Support process improvement initiatives and evaluate effectiveness.
  3. Participate in developing Registration Standard Operating Procedures.
  4. Assist in increasing upfront collections during registration.
  5. Conduct registration audits to identify and correct revenue cycle errors.
  6. Serve as a float for both medical and dental clinics.
  7. Assist with onboarding new patient access employees.
  8. Cross-train patient access representatives.
  9. Handle patient complaints regarding staff or providers and report to SOM.
  10. Assist in recruiting, hiring, and retaining high-performing staff.
  11. Monitor schedules, no-show rates, cancellations, and other responsibilities to meet service demand.
  12. Serve as a resource for patient access staff across SWLA sites.
  13. Pay attention to detail in all job aspects.
  14. Perform additional duties as needed.
  15. Other duties as assigned.
