Lead Pathologists' Assistant - Surgical Pathology

Explore the dynamic role of a Per Diem Lead Pathologists' Assistant in the surgical pathology department, where you'll contribute to the daily functions of the grossing laboratory (Surgical Pathology) and manage work scheduling for your team. Under the mentorship of the Pathologists' Assistant Manager, you'll be involved in examining surgical specimens for critical diagnoses, refining autopsy prosection techniques, and mastering medical photography.

In this role, you'll prepare specimens for fixation and embedding, perform advanced frozen section procedures, and participate in various departmental activities. Your contributions will support patient services, research, teaching, and the development of innovative technical procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Accession surgical specimens in the laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Propose improvements to processes and methods as needed.
  • Oversee and perform processing and grossing of surgical specimens, in accordance with CAP and CLIA 88, list A, B, and C standards for anatomic pathology.
  • Oversee quality control and quality assurance processes.
  • Process and gross surgical specimens.
  • Perform routine and complex autopsies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pathologist Assistant Studies.
  • ASCP / AAPA Pathologist Assistant certification.
  • At least 4 years of experience as a certified Pathologist Assistant in an Anatomic Pathology Laboratory.
