Job description

We are a Christ-centered, Bible-believing, Bible-teaching church in Pownal, Maine. Pownal is a growing bedroom community to Portland. We are the only church in our town. We want to reach Pownal and beyond with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We are conservative in doctrine (embracing the inerrancy and infallibility of the Scriptures). We are blended in worship (hymns & songs from Passion, Elevation, Gettys, etc.). We have a vision of reaching the growing unchurched community around us. We pray that our next pastor will lead us to love God’s Word and live out Christ’s mission to seek and to save the lost.

We are historically independent. To increase our effectiveness in reaching out to the unchurched, we have recently affiliated with the Baptist Churches of New England (BCNE of the SBC).

We are looking for a pastor with the heart of a shepherd who will also help us reach younger people and the lost community around us. The pastor works in collaboration with the Deacons and Trustees, in accordance with our Bylaws, and in agreement with the Bible. As our church grows, we hope to grow our pastoral team as well.

Responsibilities
  • Lead Sunday morning services, adult Sunday school, and develop congregation
  • Lead in the ordinances: communion (monthly) & baptism
  • Plan/lead worship service (our worship team is growing and as the church grows, we hope to find a worship leader)
  • Lead the church to grow through small groups & outreach
  • Perform marriages & funerals in accordance with Church policy & Scripture
  • Encourage and participate in church events
  • Create a welcoming environment for visitors
  • Develop a strategy to connect with children, teens, and young adults
  • Actively work with the Deacons in shepherding the congregation
  • Connect with the local community & develop relationships with area pastors
  • Ex-officio member of church committees (Deacons, Trustees, and others)
  • Oversee communication (email, mail, website, YouTube, Social Media, Bulletin)
Experience and Education
  • Solid Biblical knowledge and text-driven preaching/teaching
  • Good people skills and relates well to people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Ability to problem solve, work independently, and execute with minimal oversight
  • Lead pastor or relevant ministry experience preferred
  • Degree from Bible college or seminary preferred
  • Basic computer skills, comfortable with modern technology and online platforms
Compensation
  • Base salary up to $50,000
  • Stipend toward healthcare
  • Professional ministry expense and travel allowance
  • Parsonage available (3 bed / 2 bath with barn/garage and stand-by generator). Includes paid utilities (electric, heat, phone, and internet).
