Job summary

flyExclusive is seeking a Lead Paint Technician to oversee aircraft stripping, priming and base coat applications in our hangar environment. You will mentor teammates, ensure compliance with FAA guidelines and safety rules, and coordinate with parts to secure materials needed for daily jobs.

The role requires a thorough knowledge of paint processes and the ability to adapt to varying daily tasks across aircraft types.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Valid US passport preferred; must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • 10+ years of current corporate jet experience in stripping, sanding, priming and painting.
  • Comprehensive background check and FAA safety requirements apply.
  • Safety-sensitive role; subject to pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing.

Job Summary

The Lead Paint Technician position requires advanced knowledge of the paint process. The job includes varying amounts of general mechanical applications as listed below. Job duties will vary each day and a vast knowledge of strip and paint processes between the hangars is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments.
  • Notify Manager/Director in advance of shift starting if unable to work for any reason.
  • Overseeing the processes of prepping and painting aircraft per manufacturers maintenance manuals.
  • Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
  • Sanding, priming, painting and detailing of aircraft.
  • Training individual team members to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
  • Scheduling with parts department to ensure necessary materials required to complete the jobs are available.
  • Paint shop quality control to include buying off of all processes.
  • Delegation of maintaining the premises of the paint shop and work facilities in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Many duties of the Paint Shop Lead may be delegated by him to qualified subordinates as deemed necessary; however, such delegation does not relieve the tech of the overall responsibility.
  • Any other job-related duties assigned by Manager/Supervisor or Director.
Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to use Air equipment, polisher, and sander.
  • Stripper pump, electrostatic paint guns, pressure posts, and laser level.
  • Being a self-starter who is highly motivated with strong initiative
  • A valid driver's license approved for airline travel
  • Must have regular attendance and be able to work overtime when needed and potentially work alternate shifts as determined by aircraft schedules and manpower needs.
  • Self-motivated, able to work unsupervised and maintain a rapid pace. Quality oriented.
  • Ability to read detailed drawings and understand renderings. Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
  • Maintain customer service-oriented work habits.
  • Work is done primarily outdoors; must be comfortable working in all weather conditions.
  • Must be available and flexible to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Basic Understanding of Computer Applications and Data Entries.
  • Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak English.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Must perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
  • Oversee Prepping for Strip, Prep for prime, and Prep for base coat application.
  • Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
  • Maintain customer-oriented work habits.
  • Responsible for contacting other technicians/leads/Supervisors in all other departments as well as communicating on all jobs in the shop for interdepartmental flow continuity.
  • Responsible for communicating with Paint Department leadership
  • Responsible for contacting company sales representatives.
  • Responsible for communicating with customers or outside vendors.
Work Environment
  • Exposure to loud noises including but not limited to airplane machinery and jet engines.
  • Mostly outside the industrial environment in a heated hangar or shop area.
  • Varied positions in and around the aircraft.
  • Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment will be used.
  • Able to work around noise, dust, chemicals and paint fumes.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to see and hear clearly.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and speak English clearly
  • Pass pulmonary physical prior to employment
  • Pass respiratory fit test, as you must wear protective gear

  • Ability to climb, twist, bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, and crawl
  • Ability to move in tight quarters.

  • Pass pulmonary physical prior to employment.
  • Pass the respiratory fit test, as you must wear protective gear.

  • At least 10 + years current corporate jet experience, stripping, sanding, priming and painting corporate or commercial aircraft or the equivalent.
  • Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. This includes verification of previous employment, education, criminal history, and any other relevant information necessary to determine the suitability for the position.
  • This position is classified as a Safety-Sensitive role under Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and is subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with FAA guidelines
  • Adhere to all relevant procedures, whether communicated verbally or in writing, when executing assigned responsibilities that involve the utilization of a respirator and undergoing a PFT (pulmonary function test).
